Magnesia Ceramics
Magnesium oxide ceramics has high melting point, high hardness, corrosion resistance and chemical stability.The following are the applications:
1.Refractory materials: This is the most significant application field of magnesium oxide. MgO has an extremely high melting point (approximately 2800℃) and excellent thermal shock resistance, making it an outstanding refractory material and widely used in:
- Steel smelting: Used as the inner lining of steel-making furnaces, ladle inner lining, etc.
- Non-ferrous metal smelting: Furnace linings used for smelting non-ferrous metals such as copper and aluminum.
- Glass industry: It is used as the inner lining of glass furnaces because it has good corrosion resistance to molten glass.
- Cement industry: Used as lining for cement rotary kilns.
2. Electric heating elements: MgO has excellent electrical insulation and high thermal conductivity, and thus is commonly used as an insulating material in electric heating elements, for example:
- Heating tube: MgO powder is filled in the metal tube, serving as the insulating layer of the resistance wire.
- Thermocouple: MgO is used to protect the temperature measurement element of the thermocouple.
- Substrate: MgO substrates have excellent heat resistance and electrical insulation,
3.Other applications:
- Crucible: It is used for smelting and processing certain specific metals.
- Refractory bricks: Used in construction and industrial furnaces and kilns.
